As I sat curled up in my armchair and eating my breakfast one morning I drew this out of my bag of “Things To Do With Jesus.” The rule I put on it was that it could’t be anything I hadn’t personally experienced. I couldn’t just say “God is love” because I know it’s true, I had to have personally experienced that love. So  I jotted down my description:

  • He loves me.
  • When he throws back his head and laughs I love it. He’s almost always laughing.
  • He has a huge sense of humor. Ones who haven’t experienced it might be scandalized, but he’s so funny! He keeps me laughing.
  • His arms are so strong and powerful, when I need to be held he holds me tight and close, he’s so comforting.
  • His hands are tender, yet strong: to dance, to hold, to express himself.
  • He exudes strength, yet he can be so gentle.
  • When he looks at me I melt.
  • He takes my desires, dreams, and wishes, and makes them real, living them with me.
  • He’s everything I need before I ask.
  • He’s beautiful, radiant, and vivaciously alive.
  • He’s attentive.
  • He treats me like a lady.
  • He makes me feel special.
  • He holds me when I hurt.
  • He cries with me.
  • He loves time alone with me.
  • He loves sharing hearts, dreams, and chit-chat.
  • He communicates so much without words.
  • He’s better than chocolate.
  • He shields and protects me.
  • He serves, provides, is vulnerable, and trusts me.
  • He longs to be face to face even more than I do.
  • He wants me to drop my masks and fears and be real with him.
  • He loves the beach.
  • He doesn’t talk much but his grin and laugh and eyes and arms speak volumes.
  • He takes me places I’ve never been.
  • He’s playful and full of fun. He has a silly side.
  • His compassion for people is enormous, beyond comprehension, and when he shares his heart with me I cry with him.
  • His position of authority is such that he can go anywhere anytime—no doors are closed.
  • He’s sensitive to my needs and desires.
  • He exudes strength, confidence, and tenderness.
  • What I think matters a lot to him.
  • He loves to show me new sights and experiences just to see my delight.
  • He is extremely proud of and fascinated by creation.
  • He has a thing about hair. (Songs 7:5: “Your hair is like royal tapestry; the king is held captive by its tresses.”)
  • He cares so much about people’s hearts, much more than rules.
  • He meets me where I am emotionally but also pushes me to go further than my comfort zone. He won’t let me play it safe.
  • He’s very sensitive to my feelings, careful not to embarrass me or point out something that would embarrass me.
  • He’s very romantic, and loves cards, flowers, and candles.
  • He is very touch-oriented.
  • He loves to dance.
  • He’s sweeter than honey and more delicious than wine.
  • He is altogether lovely.
